🧠RSPON News - Hydrocephalus is a buildup of fluid in the brain cavity, increasing pressure on the brain. In infants and children, hydrocephalus causes the head to enlarge, while in adults, this condition can cause severe headaches. Untreated hydrocephalus can disrupt a child's physical and intellectual development. In adults, delayed treatment can cause permanent symptoms. 👶🏻🧑🏻 ✨ As part of a series of activities commemorating the 11th anniversary of the Prof. Dr. Mahar Mardjono National Brain Center Hospital in Jakarta, a national webinar was held on the topic "Comprehensive Management of Hydrocephalus: Early Detection, Surgical Intervention, and Follow-up Care." This webinar is open to participants including physicians, vocational nurses, nurses, medical-surgical nursing specialists, emergency critical care nurses, level 5 vocational nurses, level 6 vocational nurses, surgical specialists, and clinical microbiologists. This webinar will be held online on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, via Zoom Meeting and YouTube Live. It will feature expert speakers from the Prof. Dr. Mahar Mardjono National Brain Center Hospital, Jakarta: Dr. Abrar Arham, Sp.BS., Subsp.N-Vas(K), who will discuss "Hydrocephalus Surgery: The Role of Shunts in Managing Cerebral Fluid," Tya Maris Prasetyo, S.Kep., Ners. CWCCA, CWBC, who will discuss "Guidelines for Wound Care and Infection Prevention in Hydrocephalus Patients," and Dr. Endang Rahmawati, Sp.MK, who will discuss "The Role of the PPI Committee in Preventing Nosocomial Infections in Hydrocephalus Patients." It is hoped that the webinar, which was attended by more than 600 (six hundred) health workers, can provide new insights, especially on the procedure for installing a shunt with the aim of draining brain fluid to other parts of the body so that it is easily absorbed into the bloodstream, as well as wound care and infection prevention in patients, and knowing that the PPI Committee (Infection Prevention and Control) has a crucial role in preventing nosocomial infections in health care facilities, the PPI Committee is responsible for compiling, implementing, and evaluating specific Infection Prevention and Control policies and programs for various types of infections and transmission, including nosocomial infections in hydrocephalus patients. 🩺🦠-mfy
